KUALA LUMPUR: The residents of Bukit Kerinchi and Lembah Pantai would soon have a recreational park.

The development of the 41.28ha site will consist of three phases at a cost of RM20 million.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said work on the first phase would start soon and was expected to be completed by year-end.

"Once the first phase is completed, the residents can use the facilities. Prior to this, the closest park that residents could go to is Taman Tasik Perdana.

"The first phase development of the park is also part of the Greater KL Development Plan. This is one of the government's projects towards greening the environment," he said.

Raja Nong Chik said RM1.5 million would be spent in the first phase to clear the area, install lighting, construct parking bays, build pedestrian walkways, drainage systems and facilities for the disabled.

The second and third phase developments include the construction of management office, installation of park's furniture, wooden bridges, signages and landscaping.

"There will be no other development here as the Federal Territory Land and Mines Office has given its approval for the area to be gazetted as a green lung," he said during the site visit recently.
